A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Betrayal (continued) – 18 September 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Concerned about dwindling membership, a Christian denomination spends a not-so-small fortune advertising to attract new members. Their ads try to convey the impression that they are open to all people of all backgrounds, and that everyone will be warmly welcomed. Perhaps you have seen these commercials.

However, it has been our experience that they are not open-minded or welcoming when it comes to vegetarians/vegans and/or animal advocates – even though their founder leaned in that direction.

It is this denomination’s loss, since we have found that those who have been truly changed by God’s Holy Spirit have compassion for all of God’s creatures – both human and nonhuman. By marginalizing compassionate people, they are encouraging the very opposite of the teachings of Jesus whom they purport to follow. This is a betrayal of His ideals and those “least” among us. (Matthew 25:45 and Luke 9:48)
