Blessings of Autumn – 7 November 2007
Early this morning, as I usually do, I glanced out our sliding
glass doors toward the lake. In the eastern sky, just above the tree
line, a dramatic golden sunrise came into view. I grabbed our camera
and went out to try to capture some of this beauty that lasts for only
a short time.
It’s hard to describe the joy I feel at this time of year, but here’s
this morning’s attempt to put my feelings into words:
Blessings of Autumn
By Mary T. Hoffman
(Written 7 November 2007)
Why do I love this time of year
When winter winds and cold draw near?
Is it the leaves – bronze, yellow, red –
Honking geese who fly o’erhead?
Is it the lake’s ethereal cover,
Autumn fog that comes to hover,
The gauze-like morning mist –
All of this I can’t resist?
The joy to me that autumn brings
Surpasses all the worldly things
That one can buy at any store;
God’s creation offers more.

"Joyful Curmudgeon"
An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the
same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the
world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true
peace and compassion.Blog
