"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
With Christmas approaching, this week’s local freebie paper, as expected, is full of ads with a Holiday theme. As I’ve mentioned before, they always feature a Bible verse along with some of the most insensitive promotions imaginable. During the Fall (pun intended) hunting season, articles on how to ambush God’s creatures and other such advice for the hard-of-heart abound.
This week’s issue features a lengthy article on maintaining a “clean holiday kitchen” that goes on and on about cross-contamination, food poisoning, food safety, and disinfecting “surfaces and utensils that have come in contact with raw foods, including fish, meat or poultry, before using them to prepare fresh foods like salads and fruit desserts.” You get the picture! But obviously they don’t, otherwise they would simply tell the truth – to stop eating animal parts and secretions – instead of assuming that carnivorous eating is the only choice available.
In the same paper, on another page, there is a banner with the words “A Season For Peace” with a picture of a lion lying down with a lamb, as well as one of a dove! Obviously, they just don’t choose to make the connection; it’s just empty words and hypocrisy.
