A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

NOT EVERYONE LOVES CHRISTMAS – 24 December 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Do you love Jenny Moxham’s poetry as much as we do? This morning I was reading her poems again, and thought that today, since it is Christmas Eve, I would share this one with you. Please also read my 14 January 2006 Blog “Jenny Moxham – A True Hero” at:

NOT EVERYONE LOVES CHRISTMAS
by Jenny Moxham

Not everyone loves Christmas
That festive time of year,
That time we're told is all about
Goodwill and love and cheer.
That time when Christians celebrate
The Prince of Peace's birth,
And everyone is singing 'bout
The joy and peace on Earth.

The turkeys and the piglets
Don't love this time of cheer,
For them it is the cruelest and
Most brutal time of year,
A time when they are mercilessly
Massacred for meat,
So Christian folk can serve them up
For festive fare to eat.

So why is it that Christians
Have somehow failed to see,
That killing other beings
For their Christmas lunch or tea,
Is simply not in keeping
With this season of goodwill,
At Christmas time, a time of peace,
We clearly should not kill.
