The Watchdog – 13 January 2008
Do you donate to animal-related charities? How do you decide which
ones to help support? I hope you aren’t making similar mistakes to the
ones that we made years ago: Like donating to large organizations that
claim to be for “wildlife” or “conservation,” but support hunting and
trophy hunting. Two examples are the World Wildlife Fund and the
National Wildlife Federation. The Nature Conservancy is another group
that we were dismayed to learn use very cruel methods to eradicate
non-native species.
How did we learn (and are still learning) who were really worth
helping? If I had to name the best resource that educated us about
donating to animal-related charities, I would have to say ANIMAL PEOPLE:
News For People Who Care About Animals. In addition to our annual
subscription, we order The Watchdog Report on Animal Protection
Charities – their special supplement. The 2007 edition lists 150
charities, as well as a page of excellent advice: “How to make your
donations do the most for animals.”

"Joyful Curmudgeon"
An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the
same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the
world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true
peace and compassion.Blog
