A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Never Give Up – 7 February 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

You have probably heard “never give up” numerous times, but it remains good advice; which, no doubt, is why this admonition remains so popular.

“Never give up” is also expressed as “never give in.” In 1941, during a visit to Harrow, his old school, Winston Churchill said to his audience: "Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never, in nothing, great or small, large or petty. Never give in except to conditions of honour or good sense.”

Anyone who is working toward bringing about a kinder, gentler world, a saner world for humans and nonhumans alike, realizes how important it is to never back down. Perseverance and hard work are the only things that will usher in true positive change.

Where other animals are concerned, we must never settle for half way measures or “good enough.” The insanity that has a grip on this world, and is actually hastening its destruction, must be reversed. Those who are aware of these things, and want to see Isaiah’s prophecy fulfilled, must continue to be inspired to persist, even though they may feel like a “voice crying in the wilderness.”

In a nutshell, “never give up” is the formula for success.

Isaiah 40:3

3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
"Prepare the way of the LORD;
Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God."
~ New King James Version

Isaiah 11:6-9

6 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.

7 The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole,
And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den.

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD
As the waters cover the sea."
~ New King James Version
