"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
In my Blog entitled “Intelligence, Knowledge, and Wisdom – 2 October 2006” http://www.all-creatures.org/heart/blog-20061002.html I wrote about spiritual intelligence. At some time in their lives, the people whose words are quoted below used their brains to “make the connection” about nonhuman animals and the eating habits of humans. Their words of wisdom are the result of their ability to use knowledge, and they exhibit spiritual intelligence.
“I will not eat anything that walks, runs, skips, hops or crawls. God
knows that I've crawled on occasion, and I'm glad that no one ate me.”
Alex Poulos
“I have no doubt that it is part of the destiny of the human race in its
gradual improvement to leave off eating animals.”
Henry David Thoreau
“We consume the carcasses of creatures of like appetites, passions and
organs with our own, and fill the slaughterhouses daily with screams of pain
and fear.”
Robert Louis Stevenson
“Since visiting the abattoirs of S. France I have stopped eating meat.”
Vincent Van Gogh (in a letter to his brother Theodore)
