A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

The Lord’s Prayer – 20 February 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

In the 1940’s when I was in elementary school, the day in the classroom would start with a recitation of The Lord’s Prayer and a Bible reading.

I wonder how many people really think about the words of Jesus’ prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13, particularly the part in which He asks our Father’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

After two thousand years, not much progress appears to have been made; at least as far as doing God’s will “on earth as it is in heaven” is concerned. When you stop to think about the tremendous increase in the consumption of animal products taking place worldwide, and the inherent cruelty of these industries, one can say that we are getting further away from bringing heaven to earth. After all, there is no pain and suffering in heaven and no body parts or secretions of animals are eaten there.

Why is it so difficult for most humans to “make the connection”?
