We just returned from attending the annual meeting of The Committee
to Abolish Sport Hunting, a division of Wildlife Watch, Inc. For many
years we have been supporters of this excellent organization which was
founded by Luke A. Dommer. Anne and Peter Muller continue to work
tirelessly “to save wild animals, the environment, and general public
from the silent economy that encourages and preys on the passion of a
few to kill the wildlife that belongs to all.”
Among their many accomplishments this past year, is their quashing of
a proposal to establish a canned hunt operation of white deer. Another
is the promotion of wildlife watching as an alternative “recreation
enjoyment of wildlife.” Having been a Girl Scout many years ago, I was
especially happy to see that they were able to convince the Girl Scouts
of the USA to call off a Girl Scout hunt in Minnesota.
Also present at this meeting was Joe Miele, the new C.A.S.H.
president, through whose efforts a comprehensive database of hunting
accidents around the country has been collected from published media
accounts that proves that hunting is far from safe.
