A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Thought for Today – 19 October 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

“Being all fashioned of the same dust,
Let us be merciful as well as just.”
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882)
American poet

These lines by Longfellow bring to mind the words of Solomon in Ecclesiastes 3:19-20 where he says, “All came from the dust and all return to the dust.”

19 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity.

20 All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust.

Isn’t it interesting that a few thinkers in the past recognized the truth; but here we are in the 21st century, yet most people continue to cling to false ideas that should have been discarded long ago?

When will humans admit that going vegan would benefit themselves as well as other animals and the planet? Even the Bible (that so many people claim they believe) clearly states the Creator’s original intent for them in Genesis 1:29:

29 Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.”
