A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Are Your Donations Cruelty-Free? – 29 October 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

It’s that time of year again when many people start making their annual donations to charities. Several years ago I found out about The Humane Charity Seal of Approval. http://www.humaneseal.org/ This makes it so easy for me to check if a charity funds or conducts research on animals.

An increasing number of scientists and doctors are moving away from animal experiments because of physiological and biochemical differences between species and increasing recognition of the suffering involved.

Our giving should encourage innovation in medical research that is not bogged down by outmoded animal experiments that only slow down progress. Too much time and money are wasted on worthless, redundant research utilizing animals.

In this day and age, in the eyes of more and more people, experimentation on animals is becoming archaic, unnecessary, and thoroughly distasteful. It also has the potential to harm humans, since results with animals may not be applicable to humans.

So before you give, make sure you check out that charity for yourself. Visit:
