40,000 kilometers = 25,000 miles =

1.  Japan, Norway and Iceland slaughter some 2,000 whales in total per year for meat, and rising.  At about 10 meters (1 m = 3.3') per whale, a single file of 2,000 dead whales would stretch 20 km = 13 miles along a highway.  A Funeral Motorcade for the Whales within a city would go for 100 city blocks.

2.  Japan alone slaughters 22,000 dolphins a year for meat.  At about 2 meters per dolphin, a single file of 22,000 dead dolphins would line a highway for 44 km = 28 miles.  A Funeral Motorcade for the Dolphins within a city would go for 220 city blocks.

3. Canada slaughters 325,000 seals a year for pelt, oil and penis, all banned in the U.S. At one meter per seal, a single file of 325,000 seals along an American highway would stretch over 325 km or 200 miles. The 25,000 miles covered by the Funeral Motorcade for the Seals would represent 125X this dead-seal line.

4. More than 10 million dogs are euthanized in the U.S. each year. At one meter per dog, the dead-dog line would stretch 10,000 km, or 6250 miles. The entire 40,000-km/25,000-mi Funeral Motorcade for the Dogs would represent only 4X the dead-dog line. From LA to NYC is only 2,800 miles. In other words, the dead-dog line would go from LA to NYC and back, and still have 650 miles left over.

5. About 35 million cows are slaughtered for meat in the U.S. each year. At 2 meters per cow, the dead-cow line will stretch 70,000 km or 45,000 miles, or about 2X the length of the entire Funeral Motorcade for the Cows, or about 16X the distance between LA and NYC.

6. About 100 million pigs are slaughtered for meat in the U.S. each year. At 1.5 meters per pig, the dead-pig line would stretch 150,000 km or 95,000 miles, or about 4X the Funeral Motorcade for the Pigs, or 34X the distance between LA and NYC.

7. About 10 billion chickens are slaughtered for meat in the U.S. each year. At 3 chickens per meter, 10 billion dead chickens would form a line of 3.3 million km or 2 million miles, or about 750X the distance between LA and NYC, or more than 8X the distance between the Earth and the Moon (385,000 km), or 132X the length of the Funeral Motorcade for the Chickens (25,000 miles).

The purpose of the Funeral Motorcade is to move the public to action through media by converting dry numbers into heart-rending visions.

Local animal advocacy groups and activists will join the motorcade with their own cars for finite distances as media events when Anthony Marr passes through their state.

Details will be forthcoming when available.
