Saving Wildlife from Mass Extinction due to Global Warming

Bio-Fuels - Ethanol

The fuel that shouldn't be.

The Bad Bio-Fuel

ethanol from the

Tropical Rainforests

Originally, plant-derived ethanol was considered an environmental savior.

Even now it is still considered a good way to wean America of Middle-East oil.

But as it happened, and is still happening, ethanol has proven environmentally more destructive than oil, by far.

Since most of the arable lands around the world has been developed for food, either food production is to be reduced

or new agricultural land has to be carved out of the wilderness

and the Amazon is the chief target

where endemic species abound, and most species are interdependent.

Every acre cleared could doom one or more species

and definitely diminishes the home ranges of the already embattled big cats and great apes

and robs native tribes and their children

of their cultures, homelands and playgrounds.

Net energy yield of biofuel sources.

This may look reasonable at first glance, until you look at "photosynthesis"

and wonder in which slashed-and-burnt piece of Amazon rainforest it is occurring in.

Biomass resource potential of 5000 or greater.

Area required to offset 50% of miles driven in U.S. - photo-voltaic solar vs cellulose-based ethanol vs corn-based ethanol.  Biofuels far inferior.

The Good Biofuel

In as much as combustion technology can be said to be good

biofuel derived from waste can be said to be good

Resource recovery process.

Ultimately, no combustion technology can be said to be good.
