Originally, plant-derived ethanol was considered an environmental savior.

 

 

Even now it is still considered a good way to wean America of Middle-East oil.

 

 

 

 

But as it happened, and is still happening, ethanol has proven environmentally more destructive than oil, by far.

 

 

 

 

 

Since most of the arable lands around the world has been developed for food, either food production is to be reduced

 

 

 

 

or new agricultural land has to be carved out of the wilderness

 

 

 

 

and the Amazon is the chief target

 

 

 

 

 

where endemic species abound, and most species are interdependent.

 

 

 

 

Every acre cleared could doom one or more species

 

 

 

 

and definitely diminishes the home ranges of the already embattled big cats and great apes

 

 

 

 

 

and robs native tribes and their children

 

of their cultures, homelands and playgrounds.

biofuel derived from waste can be said to be good

 

Resource recovery process.

 

 

 

 

 

Ultimately, no combustion technology can be said to be good.
