Anthony Marr's 2010 campaign report - 14 Jan 2011
I hope that you are having a great start for 2011.
First of all my apologies for not having sent out any emails over the last
several months. The main reason is that I was on tour (April 1 - November 1,
2010), and had limited internet time. Most of my postings during this time
period were on Facebook, and I will continuing to do so. If you are on
Facebook yourself, but we are not yet FB friends, please send me a friend
request with a brief message and we could stay in touch this way (www.facebook.com/anthonymarr001).
Also, if you haven't yet, please join the Global Anti-Hunting Coalition (GAHC)
in Facebook (www.facebook.com/Global_Anti-Hunting_Coalition),
of which I am the founder.
The year of 2010 began on a very high note. Early in January, I was honored
with [The Best All-Around Activist] award by Negotiation Is Over (NIH):
"Whether protecting tiger reserves in India, risking his life in undercover
investigations of the illegal trade in endangered species parts; challenging
any and all forms of hunting; hosting a radio show; writing visionary books
on science, philosophy, and cosmology; embarking on marathon coast-to-coast
Compassion for Animals Road Expeditions covering dozens of US states
(launching his seventh tour in March 2010), or mobilizing scientific
research to awaken the complacent to the immanent dangers of irreversible
ecological crisis, Anthony Marr is raising awareness, effectively
campaigning, and blazing new trails. In 2009, with several other activists,
Marr launched the Global Anti-Hunting Coalition, one that 'can bring the
weight of the entire world to bear on the local governments bullying the
For anyone skeptical of what one person can do alone or in strategic
alliance with others, or what can be accomplished without the large
bankrolls such as HSUS commands (and squanders), look no further. For Marr
shows what great things can blossom from intelligence, independence,
courage, and unqualified commitment to the rights of nature, free from the
predatory violence of Homo sapiens. The story Marr tells, and the outcome
for which he fights, is not a zero-sum tragedy that pits one element of
nature against another, however, but achieves a harmonization of life
forces. 'If we win,' Marr says, 'we will have elevated the quality of
Humanity, and brought about a major quantum leap in human social
evolution.'" - Camille Marino
The first three months of 2010 were used to organize the
40-states-in-7-months Compassion for Animals Road Expedition #7 (CARE-7).
As of April 1 until November 1, I was continuously on the road through a
counter-clockwise circuit around the US. Despite the severe attacks from a
by-now infamous cyberbully, which haunted the entire tour as of May 31,
including defamation on the internet and libelous emails sent to my tour
hosts and colleagues, the tour itself unfolded as planned, with numerous
happy surprises along the way, the most being Catherine Garneau who almost
single-handedly organized the tour as of June.
In all, I gave some 100 speeches including the 8 in the AR2010 conference,
appeared on TV and in newspaper articles in media events, kept a touring
blog which culminated in 30 episodes
and produced a 27-minute video encapsulating the entire 7-month tour.
Finally, I was honored with the prestigious Henry Spira Grassroots Activist
Award in the Animal Rights National Conference in DC, "for his outstanding
contributions in animal liberation".
All in all, I reached thousands of people directly in the tour, and hundreds
of thousands indirectly. It is not just preaching to the choir, but also
teaching it a new song, and rallying the troops with a different drummer.
Now I look to 2011 onwards.
Wish you all the best
