Letter from Melanie About Animal Cruelty and Vegetarianism - 30 Aug 2005

Hello,

My name is Melanie and I'm from Holland! My English is not so good so don't pay much attention to it.

I read some comments from people that everybody should be a vegetarian, but I think we should not. Just like a tiger -  he eats animals too. And we shouldn't forget that we are animals too.

I wanna make clear that we are not the only species are on this planet. We should live in harmony. Every animal can live with each other except the humans. I think that we think we are the boss of this planet but that is not true.

All those pictures on your site they are horrible. I think every day about animal abuse. I have nightmares. I want payback.

Just like bullfighting we should take the babies of the humans who love bullfighting and put there babies in the area with a bull. And then I will have a satisfaction and maybe other people who want to stop animal cruelty, because their babies will be smashed by the bulls. You maybe think it's horrible but look at those pictures on your site. I think the only thing we can do is to show how people can hurt the world when they see that they will be hurt.

I hope you will understand me right and don't see me like a murderer or something.

I only will make a point and a shocking statement because then maybe people will think twice about doing something stupid. It's may be hard to understand, but people think only about people.

I'll give another example: when you are white and you think about people you think about white people not as black, or Asian, or what ever. We people should clear our minds. Maybe I am the only one who thinks this way. I only don't hope so!!!

I saw something about your site, about the church and Bible. I don't believe in God, Allah, Buddha, what ever. I believe in me. If you love animals you know if you study something we people are coming from the apes and the first human steps have their origin from Africa. Bibles and all those things has nothing to do with animal abuse and is no excuse. I don't read the Bible, but when they say something about you should kill a cat because then you will be in heaven is crazy. The Bible, Koran is made by humans. And other animals cannot do anything about it. We have the brains and possibility to help the others, so TRY!!!

Dear Melanie:

Thank you very much for your letter and your thoughts.

You mentioned that tigers eat other animals, but humans don't have to; in fact, we are really fruitivores. Think about elephants and how big they grow, and they are also vegans/vegetarians.

We have found that violence only creates more violence, and if we are ever going to stop the abuse of animals, we have to do so through peaceful means.

Your comment about killing cats is not from the Bible. And, the Bible does speak about compassion for animals. Proverbs 12:10 is a perfect example: "A righteous man has regard for his beast, But the compassion of the wicked is cruel."
