Vegan lifestyle better for the planet

With World Vegan Day coming up on November 1st, I'd like to suggest that all schools take their students on an excursion to a slaughterhouse to view the way we treat the animals that we raise for meat. A gruesome thought? Yes, but not half as gruesome as it is for the young animals who are slaughtered there. The argument that 'we can't upset the children' doesn't carry any weight when you consider that most animals killed are 'children' themselves. Piglets are barely six months old and chickens are a mere six weeks, so if we're happy to 'do it' to them, our own youngsters should at least 'view what we do'. If you think a slaughterhouse is a bloody, violent, unpleasant place to go to, you're absolutely right, and no animal should be forced to go there either.

There are currently many compelling reasons to adopt a vegan diet - water conservation and preventing environmental damage for a start - but for the those with a heart, the most compelling reason is that it prevents the needless suffering of innocent animals.
