Letter from Jenny Moxham about conserving energy by going meat free

A Personal Beef The Age - 24 Mar 2008

To the Editor:

WHILE I recognise that turning off the lights on Saturday is partly a symbolic gesture, if people were asked to go "meat-free" on this day, there would be a far greater saving of energy. A study last year by Japan's National Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science estimated that producing one kilogram of beef uses enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for nearly 20 days.
