Letter from Jenny Moxham as published in The Shepparton News
April 5, 2016
It was heartwarming to read that a bull who escaped from a slaughterhouse in New York is now safe and sound in an animal sanctuary. (‘‘Stewart saves runaway bull’’, April 4)
Sadly, all his companions will now have been killed. For what?
Something as frivolous and unnecessary as momentary taste bud pleasure. Humans aren’t the only ones who treasure their lives. All animals do and, like us, they will do all in their power to save them.
People frequently say that eating meat is a ‘‘personal choice’’, but what about the individuals who are transformed into meat? Shouldn’t their choice to live take precedence over our choice to eat them?
