2 Timothy 3:16

New Life Version (NLV)

16 All the Holy Writings are God-given and are made alive by Him. Man is helped when he is taught God’s Word. It shows what is wrong. It changes the way of a man’s life. It shows him how to be right with God.

The Christian persona has gone through many changes throughout the course of time. After Jesus left the earth, Christians literally gave their lives for the glory of God. These Christians were persecuted, much like believers throughout the ages who have had the same dedication to God have been persecuted. The early Christians were imprisoned and shackled as they were forced into arenas where the elite found it entertaining to watch them being devoured by lions.

In this day and age it seems that political correctness is more important to Christians than what our Lord has said in His word. It makes me wonder how many believers live their lives without opening the bible, not only to be spiritually nourished but also to understand the heart of God.

I've heard many times about the bible and interpretation and it being written by man. The sad thing is if Christians keep analyzing the reasons why the bible isn't relevant or different versions aren't right, then we're missing the whole point. Unless we are reading the Hebrew version, our English bibles are not going to speak of the times that the original text was written in. They didn't have electronics and automobiles and all the modern day conveniences as we do today. so the language is going to read differently. The bible fits every generation. We have to read it in the context of what the culture was at that time but also how it manifests itself in the culture today.

Yes, God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, but that is referring to His everlasting love and commitment toward us. He ministers according to what the time requires. In fact, He created modern day ministers to do just that; minister in this day and age.

Challenge: So I put out a call to Christians: read your bible. Consume it. Breathe it. Feast on it and live it.

We cannot live a godly life if we don't even know what that life looks like. Only as we read the word that God has given us will we rise up and walk in the truths of God and be the light this world so desperately needs.

God bless

lamb-rightThe purpose of this series is to encourage people to live as loving, compassionate, and peacemaking children of God: Jesus tells us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10) God tells us through Micah (6:8), "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God." And we know from Revelation 21:4 that there will be no more mourning, or crying, or pain, or death. Thus, Christian living requires us to set the standards of these conditions here on earth for our fellow human beings, and for the other animals, as a witness to the rest of the world. To do otherwise is not Christian.
