On the north side of the lighthouse is a memorial to the victims of the
terrorist attacks on the United States on 11 September 2001. We believe that
this is very appropriate to have as part of this refuge, for all life is
precious, whether human or animal. The stones placed on and around the
bench are prayer stones placed there by visitors. Each brick in the patio in
front of the bench has the name of a person inscribed on it.

Presented here are just a few of the countless components of God's creation.
Just as we cannot have human and animal life without water and plants, neither
can we have lasting peace without love and compassion. It is our hope and
prayer that this series will motivate people to live and act in a cruelty-free
manner; that we would no longer hurt or destroy each other, the animals or our
environment.
