For Daisy Mae In Memoriam

An Animal Rights Poem from All-Creatures.org

All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.

For Daisy Mae In Memoriam
By M. Washington

I never got to meet you
or see the spark in your eyes,
   But I wept for you.

I never got to stroke your
   dangly droopy long ears
   But I wept for you.

I never got to laugh at your antics
   or your wiggly butt,
   But I wept for you.

Your travails were many and long
    in a short life
But I wanted you to know,
   Up there in Dog Heaven:
   I am sorry I didn't get to you in time;
Though we were strangers, in my heart
   you will always be mine,
and that I am weeping for you
   my little love.
