Let there be change
By Julie Dickinson

Let there be no animal death
for gluttonous Christmas feast.
No celebration, without mercy.

Let there be no consumption
without kindness.
And disparity of sweat shops
and blood mineral embedded gifts.

Let no 6-year-old child work a 10 hour day,
picking coffee beans for oblivious consumers,
supping festive overpriced lies in a mug
with steamed milk.

Let there be no need
of loathing and brutality
over religion and hateful yoke.

Let there be a sweet desire
to share, collaborate.
Feed the hungry and homeless,
lost waif and wanderer.

Let the heart be resonant
for all creatures of this world.

Let there be change
this festive moment.
And every moment to follow.
