My kin

I see you
Beloved creature
Breathy moment
Heart beat thrum

Christmas bells and drums

I know you
As my kin
Animals we are
Alive, together

Yet seasonal feasts
Take you from me
Ignorance
Of bliss and festive
Falsehood

There is no greater gift
Than ground
And dirt
And world
And species in
Cohabitation

We need no material flurry
And bilge of profits over the living
Only love on the table
And compassion under the tree

I dream of better days
And Christmas time with you
Beside me
Comforted
Alive

When all of us
Can see you
For what you really are
