Poems of compassion dedicated to the non-human animals who share this planet
with us and the people who fight for them.
A consideration for the three Abrahamic religions regarding God’s Commandment: “You shall not kill.” (Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17)
And a response to the dieter’s mantra: “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.”
A moment on the lip:
A being now a R.I.P.
A moment on the tongue -
The lifespan of the young.
A moment in the gut:
A lifeline sharply cut.
A moment in the pan,
…Your lifetime stopped by scan.[1]
A moment of addiction,
…Your lifespan now affliction.
A moment of desire,
…No lifeline in the mire.
A moment on the plate,
…A long wait at the Gate.
A moment in the throat,
…A lifetime Satan’s gloat.
A moment on the lip,
…The Fire and Hell’s whip.
A momentary thrill?
…The price:
“You shall not kill”!
