Flight is not the only gift:
there's hover, too.
Gnats stay aloft
near perfectly still,
resting on this puff of air or that.
Savants of June light, skillful as
the coasting hawks in their own way.
Behold:
they float just like the shimmering sun
in noon's deep sky,
sun not much more ancient than
they are.
