Animal Rights Poetry By Lee Slonimsky

This Puff of Air

Flight is not the only gift:
there's hover, too.

Gnats stay aloft
near perfectly still,
resting on this puff of air or that.

Savants of June light, skillful as
the coasting hawks in their own way.

Behold:

they float just like the shimmering sun
in noon's deep sky,
sun not much more ancient than

they are.
