Song of the Baby Seal
By Don Elroy
An Animal Rights Poem from All-Creatures.org

All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.

Song of the Baby Seal
By Don Elroy

I am just a baby
Though my coat may have turned grey
I promise I won't hurt you
Now won't you put your guns away
Oh send the ark soon lord, I pray

The empty shell beside me
Was once so full of life and love
Why did you have to kill her
She was as gentle as a dove
Oh send the ark soon lord above

And will the ark come today, Oh lord
And will it take me away, Oh lord
And will the ark come today, Oh lord
Please take me away

My mother lies beside me
My father killed by a sailor's lance
Now I'm staring down your barrel
I guess I'll join them in the dance
Oh send the ark, it's my last chance

And will the ark come today, Oh lord
And will it take me away, Oh lord
And will the ark come today, Oh lord
Please take me away
