All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize.
This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.
I may have been a feline
I may have been a bird
or possibly reptilian
and couldn’t
speak
a word
I may have suffered greatly
I may have felt so small
though I could have been a mammoth
Herculean,
strong
and tall
Whatever the injustice
that I suffered while so mute
I’ll harbor deep inside my soul
yet, wear it,
like a suit
for now I am loquacious
I have a voice to share!
this time I can’t be quiet
‘til all is just
and fair
I may not take this path again
a being with free speech
so I’ll not waste this precious chance
to say
to pray
to teach
