Veil Of Tears
by Kathleen Godwin
I try to calm the wild ones' fears
The dark and quiet end does near
Through a veil of saddened tears
At blank and tiny eyes I peer
They starve and suffer insect stings
And all that being orphaned brings
While mother lies with bones exposed
As we cute the tree and pave the road
Does this make you really proud
A human far above the crowd?
Do you wish your babies to see
That this is now their legacy?
