A Deer and Her Dear Child
A Deer and Her Dear Child -
"As the deer pants for the water brooks
So my soul pants for Thee, O God"
~Psalm 42:1
Some ancient manuscripts read: "As the deer see the face of God". This Hebrew understanding of the relationship of God to each of His created beings has been subverted in most of our Christian teaching of today, much in the same way as the slavery issue was subverted in the past. The Bible, Hebrew Targums, and rabbis consider hunters such as Nimrod and Esau to be rebellious against the Lord.
If our hearts and souls truly panted for the will of God, we could never harm another living being whether human or non-human. And, we would enjoy living animals such as these and seek to protect and preserve their lives from all harm.

Presented here are just a few of the countless components of God's creation.  Just as we cannot have human and animal life without water and plants, neither can we have lasting peace without love and compassion.  It is our hope and prayer that this series will motivate people to live and act in a cruelty-free manner; that we would no longer hurt or destroy each other, the animals or our environment.
