Moonscape or Mushroom

Moonscape or Mushroom - No, it's not a moonscape or a photo from the surface of Mars.   This is an enlarged photo of a portion of the surface of a Panther Cap (Amanita pantherina), a very poisonous toadstool (if eaten).  Many people wonder what the difference is between a mushroom and a toadstool.  It refers to whether or not the fungus is edible.  Mushrooms are edible, but toadstools are not.  Other than that, there is no difference.  To see more of the panther cap and other fungi visit The Fungus Among Us
