Yonkers, New York bans balloon releases, circuses

From: Animal Defenders of Westchester (ADOW)
May 13, 2020

On Sept 9, 2019 we met with Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Councilmember John Rubbo to initiate banning traveling animal act legislation there.

Since the subject of banning balloon releases - which are harmful to birds and the environment - was also brought up, the mayor suggested both items be presented together to the city council as one 'Environmental Bill.'
We are happy to announce that this bill passed on April 14!  To view the bill visit:
Please thank Spano and Rubbo for their work in passing this great bill!  Mayor Spano has always supported animal issues, even as an Assembymember.

Our sincere thanks and congratulations to Julie Serenson and Taffy Williams, President of NY4Whales/NY4Wildlife, for their intelligent and invaluable input and assistance at the meeting.
