Letter from Andrea - 4 Aug 2006

We received this letter about greyhound racing; our response is below it:

I can't stand the fact that while I do everyday things people put innocent and helpless greyhounds to sleep just because they don't meet "their standards." It just breaks my heart!

If I had my choice, I would stop every single greyhound race track and put the people in jail for life for killing these dogs for no reason! Because to me that is cruelty to animals.

To put it this way, could you spend your life in a cage and then because you're not good enough anymore, have your life wasted? It's pitiful! I HATE IT. I can't explain what I would do if I ever met someone who did that to helpless animals -all I can say is it wouldn't be pretty!

From Animal Defenders of Westchester

Hi Andrea,

Of course we understand how you feel; Greyhound advocacy is one of the topics we've given special attention to - it's almost hard to believe there are still Greyhound tracks still running.

Please take your anger and put it to good use!  Peta has good flyers on this subject (or make up your own, with contact information of officials to complain to).  Write letters to the newspapers, contact politicians, join a local advocacy group in your area.  In some areas you can get library space to bring in speakers on the subject.

Thank you for speaking for the animals, and please feel free to contact us at any time.

All best wishes,
