Innocent victims

Tuckahoe, N.Y.: A new TV program consists of shamefully roping captive alligators, taunting peaceful bulls, shoving snakes into a man’s mouth, etc. How far backward have we gone in human decency?

“Go Big” is produced in an area known for hog-dog rodeos, bloody events in which frenzied dogs are turned loose to attack pigs, as onlookers cheer and judges rate the slaughter. Maybe cast member Snoop will include a cockfighting event as he did in one of his comedies.

Such fun! For decades, people have learned why animals should be afforded kindness and respect. In 2021, we should be way past this cruelty-as-entertainment nonsense. We’re again mining pathetic merriment from the same trash heap of domination over helpless beings.

If people demand recognition of our rights while mistreating those who can’t defend themselves, then we are hypocrites not yet worthy of any accolades as a society.
