Is the Daily News getting visits from puppy mill lobbyists?

Tuckahoe, N.Y.: Is the Daily News getting visits from puppy mill lobbyists? Your pro-specialty-dog articles are spewing out faster than the chocolates coming at Lucy in the chocolate factory. Adopt, don’t shop. “Specialty” dogs are available with private breeders, breed rescues and in shelters, where dogs are dumped by breeders or by owners when the new baby comes, they’re no longer cute or when the dog doesn’t match the couch.

Millions of healthy, lovable animals are killed in shelters every year for lack of a home. Animal Care Centers of NYC regularly slaughters many sweet, wonderful dogs despite humane groups who try to rescue them.

A bill, #A4283, to ban pet shops from selling dogs, cats and rabbits — which many pet shops have already successfully transitioned away from — comes up for a vote in the state legislature in January.

We expect our representatives to pass the Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill.
