APRIL 25 WHITE PLAINS, NY Members of Animal Defenders
of Westchester will join other activist groups at the annual March of Dimes
Walkathon at Saxon Woods in White Plains, at 8:00 am, to protest MOD's
wasteful policies and cruel experiments.
This is what March of Dimes is doing with your money
and the ONE BILLION DOLLARS they've taken in: sewn kitten's eyes shut, then
killed them after they suffered through a year of blindness; injected
pregnant rats with cocaine, though the dangers of cocaine to human babies is
already known; implanted electric pumps into the backs of pregnant monkeys
to inject nicotine, even though the dangers of cigarette smoking to human
babies is already known...the waste and horror is endless...
What they should be doing: putting the donations into
under- funded programs that have been proven to prevent birth defects, like
alcohol abuse treatment programs for women seeking help. There is a vast
shortage of such affordable addiction facilities; establishing a National
Birth Defects registry to help identify causes - and pave the way toward
prevention of birth defects; providing pre-natal care for the 1.2 million
women who need it every year.
Kiley Blackman, organizer of this event said, "We're
trying to get the public to think about where their money is going, and
convincing them that the slogan 'saving babies' is being misused and
exploited by charities like MOD."
