Press Release
WEAR YOUR OWN DAMN SKIN - THE BIG FUR DEMO COMES TO WESTCHESTER! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: WHITE PLAINS, NY NOVEMBER 26, 2004 Animal Defenders of Westchester will
join local student activist groups for the annual FUR FREE FRIDAY event on
Nov. 26, from 2 - 4 pm, outside Macy’s in White Plains, 100 Main Street near
the Court St. entrance. As the dead-animal clothing industry attempts to revitalize, we will be
out IN FORCE with signs, leaflets, costumes and a banner, with the purpose
of reminding the public that fur is still murder, and that they should “WEAR
YOUR OWN SKIN!!” This year NYS Senator Malcolm Smith (D-14, Queens) and State Assemblyman
Scott Stringer (D-67, Manhattan) have introduced legislation to ban an
especially inhumane method of killing animals fur, via anal and genital
electrocution. Though commonly used, the AVMA does not condone it as an
approved means of euthanasia. The animal remains awake and feels the
excruciating force of a massive heart attack. “The electrocution of
defenseless animals is unacceptable,” said Assemblyman Stringer. “It is an
inhumane practice, incongruent even with the standards of this cruel
industry, and must be put a stop to immediately.” Kiley Blackman, organizer of this event, said “I am proud to live in a
time when legislators of this great state are willing to stand up and demand
decent treatment for those who can’t speak for themselves. They are the
dynamic voice of future generations of compassionate citizens. Someday those
who wear real fur will be looked upon as society’s outcasts.” |
