In Defense of Animals (IDA) is once again actively
promoting Fur Free Friday. This year we are kicking off our Boycott Saks
campaign. To complement the many other groups focusing on certain fur
retailers, we are committed to ending Saks Incorporated's promotion and
sales of fur. Their constant promotion of fur plays an integral part in
keeping the fur industry in business.
Along with the 60 Saks Fifth Avenue stores nationwide
(18 free standing), Saks Incorporated also owns Proffits, McRae's,
Younkers, Parisian, Herberger's, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's, Boston
Store, Off 5th, Bullock & Jones, and two mail-order houses, Folio and
Bullock & Jones. This totals 362 targets in 38 states! (Brody's,
Parks-Belk, Hess and Loveman were acquired by Saks Inc. Presently, Saks
Inc. has acquired 18 Dillard's stores.)
All this gives ample opportunity for activists in less
populated areas to get involved in protests and demonstrations. Even a
few activists leafleting and holding signs in protest is effective in
places where the local media is hungry for any story. Small-town news
media will spend the extra time to tie these events in with national
actions.
We kindly ask for everyone's help in making this a true
boycott. Please cut up your correlating credit card (ask your friends
and family to do the same) and send them to:
