Just a friendly reminder that the early registration
discount for the Oct. 7-9 "Power of One" conference in Raleigh, NC is
coming up on Aug. 31. This will be the 20th annual International
Compassionate Living Festival, co-sponsored by the Culture and Animals
Foundation and the Institute for Animals and Society. This conference
complements, not duplicates, other AR conferences, and is a great
opportunity for "thinking activists" and "activist thinkers" to get
together and discuss a wide range of current AR topics.
The two keynote speakers are Tony Banks, who led the
successful fight in the British Parliament to outlaw fox hunting, and John
Mackey, the vegan CEO of Whole Foods Market. The other speakers are Ingrid
Newkirk, Jill Robinson, Joyce Tischler, Patrick Kwan, Sherry Schlueter,
Carol Buckley and Karen and Michael Iacobbo (authors of "Vegetarian
America: a history"). Tom Regan and Kim Stallwood will also speak, and
HSUS will give a special video presentation during lunch on Saturday.
Registration includes five vegan meals, an exhibit area
and bookstore. A limited amount of exhibit space is still available.
Scholarships are available for full-time undergrad and grad students. Free
childcare will be offered to those who register by Sept. 14. Discount room
rates are in effect at the hotel until Sept. 15.
Details and registration forms are available at
