Daniel Quinn's " Ishmael"
Created upheaval's in the mind-unresolved
What am I a taker or a leaver?
The human race
Cruel & bigoted
Atrocities committed
Curvilinear noses, excess pigmentation, almond eyes set too close hair
too oily
Or the sultan's evil eye on the neighbor's field
Go to war
Kill maim, drink the blood of children born or not
We've been bad to each other
But much worse to the animal kingdom
We are the most dastardly evil king
Of the animal kingdom
For our own purposes, production, growth hormones, cannibalize the
remains of one species, feed the other,
Dice & slice confine
Go to market a day earlier
Create the mad cow disease
The slime that we are
Makes the devils cauldron taste like nectar
If we could collect the cries of pain & anguish Of humans & animals
that suffered & make it one crescendo
The entire worlds tympanics would shatter
The DNA would mutate & eliminate this faculty
So future generations
Would not hear-
Forever
What then of Mozart's & Beethoven's to come
Thank the Lord for my Vaishnav beginnings
I live the simple life
Hoping to give back to
Mother earth what I take
Sustenance only what the Lord Blesses
Fruit Flower Vegetation & water.
No animals slaughtered in my Camelot
The balance of nature
In God's hands
But for the waving mustard
Fields
& Dry bread So then
What am I a Taker or leaver!
