Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans)

Crimson Rosella
(Platycercus elegans)

The Crimson Rosella is entirely endemic to Australia, being found in the wild nowhere else, and it is fully protected.

There is, however, a large captive population and the species is often seen sold by the avicultural and exotic pet industry. This life-size oil painting shows a single male in typical plumage, a beautiful combination of blue, bright crimson, black and ivory-white. There are several other rosella species, all characterized by bright colour patterns.
