What is Vegan Option Always?

Vegan Option Always is a program specifically tailored to your organization that assists in allowing you to provide at least one vegan option at every event. With your help, we can continue to connect our community with our spiritual and ethical heritage via a commitment to mindful eating that emphasizes joy, nutrition, and tikkun olam.

Why is it important?

Our sacred texts and many leading rabbis point toward a plant-based, animal-free diet for the following three reasons:

  1. The Torah repeatedly communicates G-d's preference that we eat plants, not animals.
  2. Permission to eat meat was a concession to human desire.
  3. The Torah forbids us from causing animal suffering.

Raising animals for food requires massive amounts of land, food, energy, and water and causes immense animal suffering. Vegan diets have been linked with lower blood pressure and cholesterol as well as lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.

Offering a Vegan Option Always gives us a way to conserve natural resources, relieve animal suffering, and improve our health.

Why should you participate?

  • Offer healthier options for your members, visitors, guests, seniors, youth, and children.
  • Make your synagogue or organization more welcoming to the growing numbers of vegans and vegetarians.
  • Align your synagogue or organization with the highest ideals of Judaism.

Jewish Veg will provide:

  • Access to the more than 50 recipes on the Vegan Option Always website.
  • Marketing assistance to let people in your community and across the country know that you always have a vegan option.
  • Recognition of your organization on the Jewish Veg website and on our social media platforms.
  • The opportunity to have a Jewish Veg speaker present at your venue.
