Alliance for Animals (AFA)
March 2013
Coming on the heals of the County's recent ban on the exhibition of elephants, it seems that the interests of animals in Dane County are beginning to be acknowledged.
In a rare victory for animals, the Dane County Board of Supervisors voted overwhelmingly Thursday (March 21) night to ban the use of traps in some designated Wildlife Areas.
Thanks to AFA's successful work and the impassioned testimony of many animal aadvocates - and in spite of intense opposition by members of the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation and the Wisconsin Trappers Association - Dane County Supervisors sent a loud and emphatic "No!" to the Department of Natural Resources and the Governor's office's demand that trapping must be allowed everywhere in Wisconsin.
This victory is important for animals throughout Wisconsin.
It sets a precedent: animals' lives cannot be weighed by their commercial value.
