Los Angeles City
Councilmember Bob Blumenfield
September 2018
Now LA is the biggest city in the nation to stand up and ban this vile practice.
Today the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously for my motion to ban the manufacture and sale of new fur products throughout Los Angeles. Now LA is the biggest city in the nation to stand up and ban this vile practice.
More than fifty million animals including foxes, chinchilla, minks, raccoons, dogs and rabbits are killed for their fur every year. According to the World Society for the Protection of Animals, eighty-five percent of these animals are raised and killed on factory fur farms.
There’s no excuse for being complicit in this inhumane and unnecessary trade.
Thanks to my colleague Councilmember Paul Koretz, Councilmember Mitch
O'Farrell and
Marc Ching from The Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation for helping lead
this effort as well as Tony Kanal, Joanna Krupa, Maggie Q and all the animal
welfare advocates who joined us this morning to support my fur ban.
