Arriving at the bile farm on Tuesday, we were given permission to remove the last two bears from the farm. Our negotiations with the help of the Vietnam Forestry Department, included terms that the bears would NOT be replaced, and the bile farm would close - forever.

And then we saw them…

Thanks to your incredible kindness and support, the two bears we appealed to you about just a few days ago, have been rescued and are in the care of our emergency response team.

Meet Bazan and Wendles, new names to begin their new lives. Thank you so much!

Both bears had lived in these cages since they were cubs

Arriving at the bile farm on Tuesday, we were given permission to remove the last two bears from the farm. Our negotiations with the help of the Vietnam Forestry Department, included terms that the bears would NOT be replaced, and the bile farm would close - forever.

And then we saw them…

Two sets of frightened eyes peering at us through the bars, their heads bowed, trying to make themselves invisible. To these long-abused bears, humans meant only one thing… pain.

They’d been in these cages their whole lives, and we didn’t waste a second to break them out of those dark and dirty cells.

Bazan enjoyed her first ever taste of watermelon. Just imagine how sweet that tastes after years of sloppy gruel!

Our brave little survivors are on the rescue trucks home right now and we’ll arrive back at the sanctuary tomorrow. And then the hard work will really start…

A rescue is just the beginning of many weeks and months of intensive veterinary care and rehabilitation for this sweet pair, and the costs of this, not to mention a lifetime of care, are formidable…

Please, if you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, could you send a gift today? It could help so much to soothe their pain, and heal the wounds of the past.
