I have lived in Pennsylvania where hunting of deer, bear and anything that moved was frequent. What I experienced and was warned about when hunting season began, was to beware of deer darting across the street in the effort to run away from hunters. This was common knowledge.

I've seen hunters by the roadways wanting to kill deer grazing peacefully and even saw one hunter chasing a deer along the guardrail where I was driving. I have stopped at a bear check-in center where I heard hunters boasting about their "kill" among dead bloody cubs.

Please don't blame the deer mating season for car collisions. The woods are their home. We are the worst predators and destroyers of nature among any living being.
