Humanizing Mice; Rodentizing People

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.
- Desmond Tutu

The January, 2013 issue of the peer-reviewed journal Virology includes a publication with this title:  "New generation humanized mice for virus research: Comparative aspects and future prospects"

University of Colorado microbiologist, Ramesh Akkina is a professor of virology whose life work is to develop a vaccine for AIDS by using mice as an experimental model. In that regard, his future work will be experimenting on future genetically engineered mice combined with human genes and then subjecting them to autoimmune diseases. After making them ill, he will end their lives and cut up their bodies, isolating brain, kidney, and liver samples, and then jump to absurd conclusions to be applied to humans. Wall Street will make him wealthy when news of his animal research hits the market. News which will betray humans with false hope.

Highlights from this week's publication:

"Work with human specific viruses will greatly benefit from the use of an in vivo system that provides human target cells and tissues in a physiological setting."

"Humanized mice (hu-Mice) have played an important role in our understanding of viral pathogenesis and testing of therapeutic strategies."

"Limitations with earlier versions of hu-Mice that lacked a functioning human immune system are currently being overcome."

"The new generation hu-Mouse models are capable of multilineage human hematopoiesis and generate T cells..."

"...The Hu-HSC model is created by transplantation of human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), whereas the BLT mouse model is prepared by transplantation of human fetal liver, thymus and HSC."

Will you join the line for a genetically engineered AIDS vaccine which was developed by such technique, a disease which takes many years to run its normal course? Or, on that day in which the law of a police state requires that your child be vaccinated in order to attend Kindergarten, will you explore home schooling?

As often as Herman had witnessed the slaughter of animals and fish, he always had the same thought: in their behaviour towards creatures, all men were Nazis. The smugness with which man could do with other species as he pleased exemplified the most extreme racist theories, the principle that might is right.
- Isaac Bashevis Singer
