HORSES IN CENTRAL PARK FINALLY GET WATER
ASPCA to provide water from trucks - Please thank them.
The water troughs are shut off in Central Park from November to March depriving the carriage horses of water. The City turns a blind eye and defends the use of fire hydrants to provide some water. It is not the responsibility of the ASPCA to provide water for the horses - however, they have stepped up to the plate and will be providing water in the two troughs beginning on Monday, March 10th. Let's hope the drivers take advantage of it and do not - out of spite - prevent their horses from drinking. This is great news for the horses. No longer will we see thirsty horses looking longingly in an empty garbage filled trough. It was no easy feat to accomplish a seemingly simple task. The Parks Dept. and the drivers had to agree and the logistics of providing the water had to be resolved.
Please contact Ed Sayres, ASPCA president, to let him know you appreciate what they have done. [email protected] or 212-876-7700 - dial 0 and ask for Ed Sayres.
