Horse Drawn Carriages

Lamest report ever

PETA is today slamming as "bogus and unconvincing" a report by a veterinarian hired by the New York carriage horse industry. Veterinarian John Lowe has admitted that he did not perform even the basic standard exam of trotting the horses to test for lameness, saying there was "not enough room" and only looked at a fraction of the City's more than 200 horses used in the carriage trade.

PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk commented, "Talk about lame. This is the lamest report imaginable: an industry-funded attempt to put a smiley face on a sad and wretched industry that treats horses like machines, denies them all that is natural to them, restricts their water intake, makes them wear diapers, and forces them to inhale exhaust from tailpipes morning to night. Horse-drawn carriages are as old fashioned and inappropriate today as child labor. PETA encourages New Yorkers to support City Councilmember Tony Avella's bill for a total ban on horse-drawn carriages."
