1. Organic Not Necessarily Happier

Read about 5 facts that show “organic” does not mean cruelty-free in the organic dairy business. “Organic” only ensures that the cow was fed an organic diet and by no means translates into happy cows.

Please visit Are Organic Dairy Cows Actually Happier?

Cow’s raised for milk or beef are exploited regardless of the term used. While some cows are less abused than others it’s certainly important to recognize that when we steal their milk and babies we are making them miserable, and we are not showing compassion or mercy to them.

2. Famous Quote

"Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child, as it is to the caterpillar."
~ Bradley Miller, Humane Farming Association (HFA)

3. New Undercover Investigation

A new undercover investigation by the animal advocacy group Mercy For Animals shows egregious cruelty to animals at Mississippi livestock markets. The investigator witnessed and documented workers violently kicking, punching, beating, and shocking animals; goats, sheep and pigs being callously picked up by their ears and necks; workers pulling tails and carelessly dragging animals by their hair; and animals routinely denied food, water, and proper veterinary care.

God’s animals who are raised for food suffer unimaginably at humanity’s hands. From this, the whole planet and its inhabitants suffer many negative consequences that bring devastation, and disease at pretty much every level.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. We can live a life of compassion, healing and sustainability by simply choosing to eat plant-based foods.

4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Colossians 1:28

Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature in Christ.

As Christians, we should strive with all our heart to follow Jesus' teachings of compassion, mercy, love, peace and justice, which are the core of our Faith.

5. Cows Are Being Tortured and the USDA Does Nothing

Cows are tortured at Des Moines districts slaughterhouses and the USDA is doing nothing to stop it, even when USDA inspectors witness the cruelty. For example, “The plant manager shot a cow through the head and then tormented the animal for more than 10 more minutes. Instead of even trying to put the animal down, as he was legally obligated to do, the plant manager electrocuted the cow with an electric prod, over and over, trying to get her to leave the stunning box, where two cows were trapped in a space intended to hold one.

The USDA inspector who filed the report noted that because the gate to the stun box was halfway down, the cow's escape was a "physical impossibility." But that didn't stop the plant manager from trying. The cow's screaming brought two USDA inspectors and the plant's "slaughter QA supervisor" to the scene. But their presence did not deter the plant manager from continuing to electrocute this poor cow.

Because the electrocution was so painful, the cow tried to cram her body through the gate. The report indicates that due to her attempting the impossible, her "hide [was] peeled back ... and there was blood and hair throughout the wound, as well as blood and hair on the lift gate."

Christians profess to worship a loving God and to follow Jesus’ teachings. But, unless we do our best to show compassion and mercy to all of God’s creatures, we are being hypocritical. Clearly, supporting an industry that tortures sentient beings for profit, taste and convenience is inconsistent with the Christian faith.

6. This Week’s Video: The Neuroethical Argument

Watch Why I Don't Eat Faces: A Neuroethical Argument for Veganism, a short gvideo that presents a neuroethical argument (based on the idea of a central nervous system and the processing of pain) for lessening the suffering of animals by choosing a vegan lifestyle.
