1. How Wasteful Are Americans? Very.

Americans are wasteful. In the U.S. consumers throw about 40% of the food and business about 50%. This means that a very large percentage of animals who are raised and killed for food end up in the trash.

Please visit Americans throw out more food than plastic, paper, metal, and glass.

The biggest and most profound revolution that took place in the history of humankind might as well be agriculture, especially animal agriculture, where humans decided to herd animals and control their lives as if they were simple commodities. Humans learned to exploit other beings, control their reproduction, deny them their God-given instincts and needs, and most of all we learned to harden our hearts and pretend God’s animals belong to us.

The wastefulness we read about is a direct result of having too much food and too little concern for the planet and its inhabitants.

2. Famous Quote

“We can see that in general, the more a culture oppresses animals, the greater its inner agitation and numbness, and the more extroverted and dominating it tends to be. This is related to the scarcity of meditation in Western cultures, where people are uncomfortable with sitting still.

Quiet, open contemplation would allow the repressed guilt and violence of the animal cruelty in meals to emerge to be healed and released. Instead, the very activities that would be most beneficial to people of our herding culture are the activities that are the most studiously avoided. We have become a culture that craves noise, distraction, busyness, and entertainment at all costs. This allows our eaten violence to remain buried, blocked, denied, and righteously projected.”

~ Will Tuttle, The World Peace Diet

3. Save the Planet!

Moby writes a compelling article about the devastation the livestock industry is causing on the planet. He points out that we are killing 1,776 animals for food every second of every day and that this in turn is killing the planet. Global warming, droughts, famine, epidemics, etc. can all be directly linked to the fact that we just seem to like animal products so much that we are willing to destroy the planet for their taste.

Please visit Save the Humans.

We have the privilege and responsibility to take care of the only home we have: planet Earth. However, we seem not to be taking this seriously. Sadly, we are destroying the earth one bite at a time when we choose taste, profit and convenience over the planet. It’s simply time to wake up before it’s just too late.

4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Psalm 19:14

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Let the Spirit of God guide our words and actions. In this way, they will reflect God's love for all Creation by showing compassion, love and mercy.
